Ranchi: Fifteen new people were tested positive on Sunday in Jharkhand, taking the total number of COVID-19 cases to 83 in the state. This is the highest single-day rise in cases in the state since the outbreak of disease.
Among the 15 new cases tested positive include, four nurses of Sadar Hospital Ranchi whom one had assisted in delivering the child of a positive woman from Hindpiri, a few days earlier, a health department official informed.
Apart from four nurses, 12 other persons have tested positive are from Hindpidi (8), Pisca More (1- working as a driver at health department) and two from Garhwa while one more for Baritu (admitted at Medanta Gurgaon), informed an official.
State health secretary, Nitin Madan Kulkarni said, “On Sunday 15 corona positive cases were detected. These fifteen cases include four nurses working at Sadar hospital.”
The maternity ward of Sadar hospital has been sealed after a woman from Hindpiri who gave birth to a child at ward was later tested positive, said an official.
Out of 83 positive cases, 56 cases are from Ranchi (50 from Hindpidi area), 10 from Bokaro, 3 from Hazaribagh, Garhwa and Palamu each, while 2 cases belong from Dhanbad, Deoghar and Simdega each. One each from Koderma and Giridih has also tested positive.
Meanwhile, thirteen patients suffering from the virus have fully recovered and were sent back to their homes in the last three days, he added.
Jharkhand so far has registered three deaths of Coronavirus, two in Ranchi while another person was from Bokaro.
Notably, the state registered its first-ever case of Coronavirus when a Malaysian woman, who had come after attending Tablighi Jamaat in Nizamuddin, was tested positive on March 31. She, along with 17 other foreign nationals, was recovered from a local mosque in Ranchi on March 29 following which they were sent to the quarantine centre at Khelgaon in Ranchi. Later she had tested positive while others did not show any symptoms of the virus.
