New Delhi: Sports play a vital role in making children as well as a person strong from inside while inculcating the importance of maintaining a fit and sound body, said Syama Rao legendary Volleyball player, Arjun and Dronacharya awardee.
Advocating “Sports for All” Rao said, sports also play the vital role of imparting character values, teaches us honesty, teamwork and fair play. It helps in the development of focus and concentration, in-turn assists during studies among the children too.
“Sports should be encouraged at grass root level in schools. Government and Federations must take a note on it,” stressed Rao.
Rao was addressing to a webinar titled “Enriching Volleyball” on Saturday. Two days webinar is being organised by government lead PG College, Waidhan in association with ITK India aiming to strengthen the Volleyball games.
Rao said, there is a need to change the “Volleyball index” and “attitude towards the game”. Long-term success can be expected from the development of sports culture. “School sports, the largest talent pool in the sport, needs to be given the highest importance,” he stressed.
Dr Uma Kant Singh, Sports Ambassador, ITK Leipzig University Germany said, sports has the power of instilling values like self-motivating spirit, discipline, leadership, taking ownership of success as well as failures.
Dr Singh and Jaideep Sarkar, an Asian Silver Medal (AVC) recipient in Volleyball have discussed the effort to spread modern sports across the country through Jharkhand.
Speaking on the occasion duo also emphasised the importance of Olympic Education in modern sports and also praised the works being performed by the Indian unit of IPCA.
Addressing to the webinar Dhyanchand Award winner Omprakash Tanwar insisted on the talent hunt. While International trainer Dr. M. H. Kumara highlighted on “Match Analysis”.
Sebastian George discussed in detail the untouched history of the volleyball game in India. Shakti Kumar Saggar, former international volleyball player, Director of Sports Authority of India (SAIL) and Sports Head of Tata Steel, shared his memories of Germany.
