ANS: To mark the Vanmahotsav Week, ESL Steel Limited (ESL) planted around 2500 saplings inside its plant premises at Chandankiyari in Bokaro. ESL also launched more environment-centric initiatives on this eve.
Continuing its environment-centric initiatives to save the ecosystem and contribute towards a greener India, we have started plantation drive on the occasion of Vanmahotsav Week, informed a Public Relations Official of ESL.
The week long activities include the distribution of 1,500 saplings among the employees of each department to engage them in the plantation activity. ESL will also hold drawing competitions for its employees and their children under the age group of 8 and above on the theme of environment conservation.
All the top management, including ESL CEO, N.L. Vhatte, Deputy COO, Ravish Sharma, Iron and Power SBU head, Nitesh Nirala, Steel SBU head, Ravi Ranjan, Director DIP, Tapesh Chandra Naskar, and Head HSE, Sadhna Verma participated in the drive at ESL, informed the official.
Speaking on the occasion, N.L. Vhatte, CEO, ESL Steel Limited said, “I feel extremely proud to have launched the Vanmahotsav Week celebrations by planting saplings across our plant premises. Our environmental initiatives are aimed at making us a sustainable steel player.”
“Being a responsible corporate, we are gradually developing a green belt, ensuring 100 per cent waste utilisation and controlling air pollution. I am grateful to the entire ESL workforce for coming forward and making the plantation drives a success,” added Vhatte.
To encourage active participation and motivate children and employees in being more responsible towards the environment, the company held a prize distribution ceremony today.
The winners of both Vanmahotsav Week and Environmental Day competitions got Eco Friendly bags (Jute bags) and indoor plants as prizes. ESL Steel promotes environment-centric initiatives with an aim to becoming a leading sustainable steel player. To achieve this, the company plans to continue its practices dedicated towards a healthy ecosystem through several other projects lined up for the future.
Seema Kumari, Chief Environment and Sustainability Officer, ESL said, “I am thrilled to be a part of yet another plantation drive by ESL Steel. With more saplings planted to mark the Vanmahotsav Week celebrations, our plant premises are brimming with greens and adding to the green belt we have pledged to develop.
“We are doing our bit in ensuring that the Vanmahotsav Week is a success by engaging each and every employee and their children,” she added.
Earlier this year, on the World Environment Day ESL around 2,021 saplings were planted inside the plant premises to fight climatic changes.
