ANS I Bokaro: ESL Steel Limited (ESL), a Vedanta Group Company and a key national steel player, has won the 10th CSR Award 2021 under Aajeevika Projects.

ESL was bestowed with the recognition for benefiting people under its livelihood projects such as WADI, Jivika, and Vedanta ESL Skill School. The award ceremony was organized by Sustainable Development Foundation with the support of MOEF & CC (Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change)

Under the WADI project, ESL has taken up the development of one-acre orchard through inter-cultivation in barren/dry land owned by tribal families. The project is helping to educate farmers on sustainable agriculture, improving their quality of life, and empowering women in tribal-dominated areas of the country. So far, about 200 farmers have benefitted from the project while the target is to reach out to more than 500 farmers in the next 5 years, informed a Public Relations official of ESL.

 The steel major has provided livelihood to at least 650 SHGs women under Project Jivika while the aim is to benefit 1500 SHGs women in the next 3 years. Through its Vedanta ESL Skill School, ESL is aiming to provide a livelihood to more than 550 youth in the next 3 years.

Speaking on the occasion, NL Vhatte, CEO, ESL said, “We are delighted that ESL has been conferred with the 10th CSR Awards 2021. It is a matter of pride for us that ESL has received this award under its Aajeevika Project.”

Our vision is to take steps for the welfare of social development and our CSR team is striving to benefit as many people as possible. The CSR Awards inspire us to get better and achieve more, he said.

“I am grateful to those who have recognized our efforts and bestowed us with this honour. Lastly, I would like to congratulate everyone associated with ESL because of whom we have achieved this milestone,” he added.

The award ceremony was held on 8 October in Dehradun, Uttarakhand. Ashish Ranjan, Head CSR, ER & PR received the award on behalf of ESL in the presence of Lieutenant General Gurmeet Singh (Retd.), Governor of Uttarakhand and Harak Singh Rawat, Minister of Forest and Environment, Government of India.
