ASN: Ministry of Road Transport and Highways proposes to build 22 Greenfield Expressways, 23 important infrastructure projects, and 35 multi-modal logistics parks as part of the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan.
In order to plan and implement infrastructure connectivity projects for industrial clusters and economic nodes, a digital platform called Gati Shakti brings together 16 Ministries, including railroads and roadways.
According to the information, the Greenfield Expressways in India are designed as 12-lane wide Expressways with the initial construction of 8-lanes. Land for 4-lane future expansion is reserved in the centre of the expressways.
Greenfield Expressways are designed to avoid inhabited areas and go through new alignments to bring development to new areas and to reduce land acquisition costs and construction timelines. The Delhi-Mumbai Expressway is a great example of a new 12-lane approach with initial 8-lane construction.
Some of the major Expressways and Corridors which are under construction stage include Delhi – Mumbai Expressway, Ahmedabad Dholera Expressway, Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway, and Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway.
Some of the major key infrastructure projects which are under construction stage include the construction of Zojila Tunnel in Ladakh, roads to connect Krishnapatnam Port in Andhra Pradesh, and two-laning of Lalpul-Manmao changing road in Arunachal Pradesh.
