ANS: Rainfall is predicted to be brought on in the Northeast, West Bengal, and Odisha as a result of Cyclone “Sitrang” which is now moving toward Bangladesh.

The India Meteorological Department has made the forecast that the storm will make its way through the coast of Bangladesh between Tinkona Island and Sandwip around the AM of Tuesday. Both Odisha and West Bengal will be affected by its repercussions.

It is also likely that the Northeast region may get moderate showers throughout the Diwali holiday. The state government of Tripura, along with those of several other states in the area’s northeastern region, has requested that the district and disaster management authorities take preventative steps in advance in order to deal with the cyclonic conditions. The fishermen who live along and off the beaches of Odisha, West Bengal and Bangladesh have been cautioned not to venture into the ocean till Wednesday since the sea conditions are expected to be rough.

Meanwhile, deep depression over the Bay of Bengal has intensified into cyclonic storm Sitrang. India Meteorological Department said, the cyclonic storm is very likely to further intensify into a more severe one today with wind speed reaching 90 to 100 km per hour and gusting to 110 km per hour. It is expected to cross Bangladesh’s coast between Tinkona Island and Sandwip tomorrow morning. IMD said, the storm will mainly impact the Sunderbans over the Bay of Bengal. The main affected area will be the Sunderbans in the coastal areas of North and South 24 Parganas districts of West Bengal and in Bangladesh. Isolated heavy rain is very likely over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, and Tripura from today.

On Friday, the National Crisis Management Committee (NCMC) reviewed the preparedness of central and state agencies. National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams have been made available to states. Army and Navy rescue and relief teams, as well as ships and aircraft, have been kept on standby.
