ANS: The government has formed a committee to improve the assessment and certification of higher education institutions. The committee’s mandate is to develop a road plan for the National Accreditation Council, which is envisioned in the National Education Policy 2020.

The group would be led by Dr. K. Radhakrishnan, Chairperson, Board of Governors, IIT Kanpur, and Chairperson, Standing Committee of IIT Council, according to the Education Ministry. India boasts one of the world’s largest and most diverse education systems.

Accreditation plays a vital role in making quality assurance an integral part of the functioning of Higher Educational Institutions. Accreditation also assists Higher Educational Institutions to understand their strengths and weaknesses through an informed review process.

It also serves as a source of reliable information for the students, employers, and society regarding the quality of education being offered in the Institution.
