ANS: At least six people have been killed and 81 injured in an explosion in a busy area of central Istanbul in Turkey. The blast happened on Istiklal Street in the Taksim Square area on 13 November afternoon.

Turkish Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu said the suspect who planted the bomb which exploded in Istanbul’s busy Istiklal Street on Sunday, which left six people dead and over 80 others hurt, has been detained.

“The person who planted the bomb was detained by the Istanbul Police Department. Before that, about 21 more people had been detained,” said Soylu, TRT World quoted.

Around 39 out of 81 people who were wounded during the suspected terror attack were discharged from the hospital, said Turkish Health Minister Fahrettin Koca, TRT World reported.

Turkish Vice-President Fuat Oktay said the blast is thought to be a terrorist attack carried out by a woman. No one has claimed responsibility for the blast so far. Istiklal Street, one of the city’s main arteries which is usually packed with shoppers, was previously targeted by a suicide bomber in 2016.
