New York: Amazon is likely to lay off nearly 10,000 people in corporate and technology jobs starting this week, reported different media citing sources on Monday.

Media reports revealed that “The layoff will focus on the e-commerce giant’s devices unit, which houses voice-assistant Alexa, as well as its retail division and human resources.”

Laying off around 10,000 people would actually mean dismissing roughly three per cent of Amazon’s corporate employees and less than one per cent of its global workforce of more than 1.5 million, which mainly consists of hourly workers.

Amazon, after a months-long review, has cautioned employees in some unprofitable units to look for other opportunities within the company, the Wall Street Journal reported.
