RNS: A mine collapse in Sudan claimed the lives of 14 people while dozens were injured in the incident.

According to a statement by an official of the Sudanese Mineral Resources Company, a mine collapse in Sudan resulted in the deaths of at least fourteen miners and injuries to more than twenty more.

The massive catastrophe that occurred on Thursday was caused by a piece of a mountainside that collapsed close to the al Jabal al Ahmar mine, approximately 70 kilometres from the city of Wadi Halfa.

According to reports from Sudanese news agencies, eyewitnesses stated that the fall was caused by gold miners using heavy machinery to dig for the precious metal.
