ANS: NTPC (National Thermal Power Corporation) and CMPDI (Central Mine Planning and Design Institute) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on consultancy in mining services and training to mining personnel of coal mining projects of NTPC on Saturday.

This MoU was signed by Tarun Kumar Konar, General Manager (Technical Services), NTPC and Rajesh Kumar Amar, Head of Department (Business Development), CMPDI in the presence of Manoj Kumar, Chairman-cum-Managing Director, CMPDI and Partha Mazumder, Regional Executive Director (Coal Mining), NTPC along with senior officials from NTPC Coal Mining Headquarters, Ranchi and CMPDI, Ranchi.

Speaking on the occasion, Mazumder said, NTPC with an installed capacity of over 72 GW, is steering ahead to be India’s largest integrated power company and targets to become a 130 GW firm with a diversified fuel mix and a 600 BU company in terms of generation by 2032. The coal mining division of NTPC is at present fueling NTPC’s thermal stations, partly and is committed to growing to enhance its contribution towards NTPC’s fuel security, in the days to come.

“NTPC is enhancing the operations of its 4 coal producing mines including Pakri Barwadih; Chatti Bariatu; Dulanga; and Talaipalli. NTPC has also started mining operations from the Kerandari mine in this fiscal,” he added.

He shared that, in FY 22-23, NTPC had demonstrated a phenomenal year-on-year growth of 65 per cent with coal production of 23.20 million metric tonnes as compared to 14.02 million metric tonnes in the previous fiscal.

NTPC plans to achieve the scheduled peak rated capacity of its mines within the next five years, and further add on other coal mines through participation in commercial coal auctions.

He mentioned that NTPC has incorporated a wholly-owned subsidiary named as NTPC Mining Limited (NML) for carrying out its mining business by creating a dedicated workforce with a focused approach.

This has opened the entire mining sector for business growth. He also shared that earlier assignments carried out through CMPDI have been fruitful. This MoU will broaden the collaboration areas and shall provide the support and guidance for achieving the future coal production targets of NTPC/NML, he said.

Manoj Kumar, CMD, CMPDI expressed his gratitude for the trust and confidence relayed by NTPC through this MoU. He ensured full commitment from his team.

He shared that with a vast experience in exploration; resource evaluation; mine planning; infrastructure engineering; survey; environment management; etc., CMPDI will extend whole-hearted support to all the mines of NTPC and also contributes to competency building and skill enhancement by imparting training to the mining personnel of NTPC.
