ANS: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced that the GST Council has decided to remove GST on medications for cancer and rare diseases, as well as food items intended for special medical uses.

The announcement came after the 50th GST Council meeting in New Delhi, which Sitharaman chaired.

She further explained that the GST rates on raw, uncooked extruded snack pallets have been reduced from 18% to 5%. The same reduction applies to fish soluble paste, and the tax on imitation zari threads has been lowered from 12% to 5%.

The Finance Minister also stated that online gaming, horse racing, and casinos will now be subject to a 28% tax.

Additionally, she reported that the Council has decided to exempt GST on satellite launch services provided by private operators.
