New Delhi: Dr. Jaideep Sarkar, an international volleyball coach and sports expert hailing from Bokaro Steel City of Jharkhand, has been appointed as the chief coach of the Indian men’s volleyball team for the 19th Asian Games.
The sporting event is scheduled to take place in Guangzhou, China, from September 23 to October 8, 2023. The training for the Indian men’s volleyball team is set to commence on 20 July at the Sports Authority of India South Centre in Bengaluru.
This appointment marks the first time that a volleyball coach from eastern India, including Jharkhand, has been entrusted with the pivotal role of chief coach in a prestigious competition like the Asian Games.
Presently, Dr. Jaideep is serving as the Senior Volleyball Instructor at Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL)— a unit of Steel Authority of India (SAIL). He has extensive experience and expertises in the field have made him the ideal candidate to lead the team and prepare them for the upcoming competition.
In recognition of his remarkable contributions to the development of sports in India, Dr. Jaideep was honored with the Dr. BR Ambedkar National Award in 2022. Additionally, in 2023, his exceptional talent was acknowledged by the United Nations Commission, which bestowed upon him the prestigious Honorary Doctorate. He has also been announced to receive an honorary title in acknowledgment of his accomplishments.
Recently, Dr. Jaideep participated as a representative of the International Olympic Community in the International Meeting for the Empowerment of the Olympic Movement. The event, organized by the International Olympic Committee and the International Olympic Academy, took place from July 7 to 13, 2023, at the historic Olympia in Athens, Greece. During the meeting, India strongly advocated for the significant role of the Olympic Movement.
Dr. Jaideep’s appointment as the Indian men’s volleyball team’s Asian Games coach shows his talent and dedication. The Indian team looks forward to his advice and skills as they strive for excellence and triumph in the next competition.
