ANS: Vijay Kumar Verma, an IIT (ISM) alumnus, who is presently working as a Scientist at ISRO has served as an integral part of the prestigious Chandrayan -3 Rover design team, contributing to its cutting-edge design and rigorous testing phases.

Verma (32) who completed his PhD in 2021 as a part-time research scholar under the guidance of Professor Rajeev Kumar Ranjan, Associate Professor of the Electronics Engineering Department of IIT (ISM) is a native resident of Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh.

Son of Tihul Prasad Verma (father), a retired employee of UP Jal Nigam and Sita Devi (mother), house maker, he completed his B Tech from Uttar Pradesh Technical University in 2012 and M Tech from IIT (BHU) in 2015.

He joined ISRO in 2018 and presently working as Scientist SD, Control and Digital Electronics Group, UR Rao Satellite Centre, ISRO, Bengaluru.

“I went into the spiritual mode when the landing took place and one can say in other words for a moment it also turned completely blank in my mind and I became speechless,” said Verma and added that my parents, other family members, including my wife who is a Branch Manager at SBI Bengaluru and four-year son Vihaan Verma were equally ecstatic over the success. “Like every Indian, we were feeling extremely happy after the success,” further said Verma and added that he pursued his PhD under Prof Rajeev Kumar Ranjan after joining ISRO as a part-time research scholar.

Professor Rajeev Kumar Ranjan, Associate Professor, of Electronics Engineering, IIT (ISM) who is also a senior member Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers said “His dedication, expertise and handwork have played a significant role in pushing the boundaries of space exploration.”

Not only, Vijay but another alumnus of IIT (ISM), K Bharat Kumar, a B Tech (Mechanical Engineering) 2015 admission batch student, has also served as a key Member of the ISRO team of Scientists which played a crucial role in the landing of Chandrayan -3 on the South Pole of Moon.
