ANS: Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) will not strip anyone of their citizenship and will be implemented before the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, said Union Home Minister Amit Shah while addressing at the ET NOW Global Business Summit 2024.
Shah reaffirmed the government’s commitment and clarified that the CAA is intended to grant citizenship rather than revoke it, emphasizing its objective to provide refuge to persecuted non-Muslim migrants.
The CAA, which was passed by Parliament in December 2019, has been a subject of considerable debate and controversy. Shah sought to allay concerns by stressing that the act does not seek to strip anyone of their citizenship rights but rather aims to confer Indian citizenship upon those facing persecution in neighboring countries.
During his speech, Shah outlined the government’s vision for India’s future, stating that the upcoming elections would focus on advancing the nation towards becoming a developed country by 2047. He expressed confidence that the electorate would rally behind this vision, paving the way for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) to secure a significant victory at the polls.
Shah highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s agenda for a self-reliant India, aligning it with the broader vision of a developed nation by 2047. He underscored the importance of collective efforts in realizing this vision and urged citizens to support the government’s initiatives towards achieving national prosperity and growth.
As preparations for the upcoming elections intensify, Shah’s assurances regarding the implementation of the CAA and the government’s broader development agenda are likely to shape political discourse and influence voter sentiment in the months ahead.
