ANS: Last night, the ash pond at Chandrapura Thermal Power Station (CTPS), a unit of Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC), was breached by unidentified anti-social elements. Fortunately, there have been no casualties or property damage reported as a result of this incident.

Upon discovering the breach, officials at CTPS swiftly reduced power generation and successfully controlled the water flow from the pond, which is crucial for repair work, according to a statement from a DVC official.

A formal complaint has been lodged by the officials with the local police station, stressing the need to protect this public asset. They have called on local residents to assist in ensuring its security.

Sources have indicated that a contract for desilting the ash pond, previously held by Prabha Enterprises, has been awarded to Sai Muskaan. Speculation has arisen suggesting that a dispute between two local groups over this contract may be connected to the breach.

Management has assured that repair work on the ash pond is progressing rapidly and is expected to be completed soon. Once repairs are finished, plant operations will resume as normal. The police are currently investigating the matter.
