ANS: India and Bhutan have recently exchanged several agreements aimed at enhancing their partnership. The exchange of documents occurred in Thimphu, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay in attendance.
Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Bhutan is expected to invigorate the bilateral relationship, with a focus on developmental collaboration. India is currently engaged in capacity-building efforts in Bhutan and is providing assistance for various projects, including those related to hydroelectric power, digitization, financial inclusion, health, and education.
India is also supporting several digital initiatives in Bhutan, such as the E-Business National Single Window, Bhutan Integrated Taxation System, Integrated Citizen Services, and Digital School, aiming to help Bhutan advance as a smart, connected, and inclusive society.
The Prime Minister commenced his two-day State Visit to Bhutan by arriving in Paro, where he received a warm welcome from Prime Minister Tobgay at Paro airport. He was also accorded a ceremonial welcome.
During his visit, Prime Minister Modi had the opportunity to meet with King of Bhutan Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and Fourth King of Bhutan Jigme Singye Wangchuck.
Furthermore, Prime Minister Modi inaugurated the Gyaltsuen Jetsun Pema Mother and Child Hospital in Thimphu on Saturday. The state-of-the-art hospital, constructed with the assistance of India, is situated in Thimphu.
