Dhanbad: In a significant stride towards enhancing the quality of technical education, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad has extended its guidance and support to six nearby institutes under the AICTE-sponsored Margdarshan Scheme to help them secure NBA accreditation.

A total of 33 faculty members from these institutes participated in the first execution meet held at IIT (ISM).

The faculty members, hailing from CIT Ranchi, RTC Institute of Technology Ranchi, University College of Engineering & Technology (UCET) Hazaribagh, Sikkim Institute of Science and Technology, Government Polytechnic Koderma, and Pakur Polytechnic, gathered to learn about the NBA accreditation process.

The training included insights into application filing, preparation and submission of the Self-Assessment Report (SAR), and evaluation guidelines, delivered by a team of expert faculty members led by Professor Vikash Mahto of the Department of Petroleum Engineering.

The event, held in the Management Hall of IIT (ISM), marked the first execution meet of the Margdarshan Scheme. This scheme aims to foster a robust support ecosystem in AICTE-approved institutes, enhancing their quality across all domains.

In addition to the training sessions, the visiting faculty members toured various state-of-the-art laboratories at IIT (ISM), including the Central Research Facility (CRF) and the Institute Innovation Hub (i2h).

IIT (ISM) has been appointed as the Mentor Institute (MI) for the six institutes, sharing best practices and providing guidance on project proposals, outcome-based education, and other related areas.

Professor Sukumar Mishra, Director of IIT (ISM), addressed the gathering as the Chief Guest.

He emphasized the technicalities of the documentation process, particularly the preparation of the SAR. Professor Mishra highlighted the importance of coherence between the data submitted in the SAR and the findings during the assessors’ visit, cautioning that any discrepancies could lead to negative impacts.

Professor Dheeraj Kumar, Deputy Director of IIT (ISM), recounted the institute’s previous mentorship experiences under the Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP) phases 2 and 3, including mentoring BIT Sindri.

He expressed optimism about the collaborative efforts, stating, “Working together, we will bring a new culture, and our expert team of faculty members will assist you in developing labs and teaching-learning materials.”

Professor Vikash Mahto, Chief Coordinator of the Margdarshan Scheme at IIT (ISM), introduced the team of coordinators who will assist the six institutes.

The team includes Professor Rajeev Kumar Ranjan (Electronics Engineering), Professor Vivek Bajpai (Mechanical Engineering), Professor Dondapati Gopi Krishna (Mining Engineering), Professor Md Siddiqui (Petroleum Engineering), and Professor DV Bhaskar (Electrical Engineering).

This team will help the institutes prepare their SARs and enhance their infrastructure and facilities through on-site visits.

This collaborative effort under the Margdarshan Scheme is set to significantly uplift the quality of technical education in the region, paving the way for excellence in engineering education.
