Dhanbad: The Department of Mathematics & Computing at IIT (ISM) Dhanbad successfully concluded a three-day National Conference on Modeling, Analysis and Simulation today.

The valedictory function, held at the Golden Jubilee Lecture Theatre of the institute, featured insights from distinguished experts urging participants to overcome their hesitations and actively engage with experts to broaden their knowledge and skills.

The event saw Professor GP Rajasekhar, eminent mathematician, grace the occasion as Chief Guest, alongside Professor MK Singh, Dean (Academic), who presided over the function.

Addressing the gathering, Professor Rajasekhar emphasized the importance of shedding fear and inhibition in asking questions and interacting with experts. He underscored the evolving landscape of education, particularly in alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP), advocating for interdisciplinary collaboration across domains.

Highlighting the changing dynamics in mathematical research, Professor Rajasekhar remarked, “The role of mathematicians is expanding across various disciplines, not confined to traditional domains.

With significant funding initiatives like the National Mission for Interdisciplinary Cyber Physical Systems and the National Quantum Mission, there are ample opportunities for mathematicians from diverse fields.”

In his presidential address, Professor MK Singh praised the conference as a crucial outreach activity for the institute, emphasizing the pivotal role of such events in enhancing teaching, research, and peer perception. He stressed the need for continuous innovation and transformation in academic practices to excel in today’s competitive environment.

Professor RK Upadhyay, Head of Department, Mathematics and Computing, highlighted the department’s illustrious history and the conference’s thematic relevance. Meanwhile, Professor Sanjeev Anand Sahu, Convener of the conference, presented the conference report, noting the presentation of 81 research papers by participants including scholars and faculty members from esteemed institutions such as NIT Raipur, NIT Andhra Pradesh, IIT Guwahati, and IIT Delhi. The conference also saw participation from 16 distinguished experts who enriched the discussions with their insights.

The conference concluded on a high note, setting a benchmark for academic discourse and collaborative research in the field of mathematical sciences.
