Gonda: A devastating train derailment near Uttar Pradesh’s Gonda railway station has claimed the lives of at least four individuals and left over 40 others injured, according to reports on Thursday.
The incident occurred when approximately 10-12 coaches of the Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express derailed near Pikaura, between Gonda and Jhilahi in Uttar Pradesh.
The train, which commenced its journey from Chandigarh station at 11:35 PM on Wednesday, was en route to Dibrugarh in Assam, as per India Today.
Initial visuals from the scene depicted passengers gathered alongside the tracks, some with their belongings, amidst the aftermath of the accident.
Emergency response teams have been swiftly dispatched to the site. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed grief over the tragedy and directed officials to mobilize immediate relief efforts.
“In Assam, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has been briefed about the Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express derailment in Uttar Pradesh. He is actively monitoring the situation, and the Government of Assam remains in close contact with relevant authorities,” stated the chief minister’s office.
Instructions have also been issued for the State Disaster Response Force team to deploy promptly and expedite relief operations at the site.
