New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has embarked on a significant three-day visit to Poland and Ukraine, marking a milestone in India’s diplomatic relations with both nations.
In a departure statement, Modi underscored Poland’s role as a crucial economic partner in Central Europe. Highlighting the mutual commitment to democracy and pluralism shared by both countries, he expressed enthusiasm about advancing the bilateral relationship during his visit. This trip coincides with the 70th anniversary of diplomatic ties between India and Poland, making it a particularly symbolic occasion.
Modi’s itinerary includes meetings with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and President Andrzej Duda, aiming to bolster the partnership between the two countries. The Prime Minister also plans to engage with the vibrant Indian community residing in Poland, further strengthening cultural and economic ties.
Following his time in Poland, Modi will travel to Ukraine at the invitation of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, marking the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the country. Modi is expected to discuss enhancing bilateral cooperation and explore opportunities for a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. He expressed hope for an early return to peace and stability in the region, and views this visit as a continuation of extensive diplomatic engagement with both Poland and Ukraine.
Modi’s visit to Poland comes after a 45-year hiatus of Indian Prime Ministers visiting the country, and he anticipates that these discussions will lay a foundation for stronger, more vibrant relations in the future.
