Washington: Former President Barack Obama delivered a passionate endorsement for Kamala Harris and criticized Republican nominee Donald Trump during his speech at the National Democratic Convention on Tuesday.

Obama urged his supporters to back Harris, stating, “America is ready for a new chapter. America’s ready for a better story. We are ready for a President Kamala Harris, and Kamala Harris is ready for the job.” He chanted “Yes, she can,” echoing his famous 2008 campaign slogan, to show his support for Harris’s bid for the presidency.

In his speech, Obama sharply criticized Trump, who is seeking a second term in the White House. He accused Trump of undermining a bipartisan immigration deal that could have enhanced border security, suggesting that Trump’s focus on his campaign rather than solving problems was detrimental to the country. Obama asserted that Trump would never lose sleep over the struggles of ordinary Americans.

Obama also praised President Joe Biden, who stepped out of the presidential race and endorsed Harris as the Democratic nominee. He lauded Biden’s legacy, saying, “History will remember Joe Biden as a president who defended democracy at a moment of great danger.”

Addressing the broader global context, Obama emphasized that while the US cannot serve as the “world’s policemen,” it should strive to be a “force for good.” He underscored the significance of the upcoming election, noting that the world is closely watching the Presidential race.
