Ranchi: In a dramatic shift in Jharkhand politics, Champai Soren, former Chief Minister of Jharkhand, announced his resignation from both his ministerial position and the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) party late Wednesday evening. This move follows his recent return from Delhi, where he had earlier disclosed his intent to step down from his ministerial role.
Talking to the media persons, Soren outlined his plans within the BJP, pledging to work diligently based on the responsibilities assigned to him. He remarked, “The future program will be decided according to the responsibility I get to work in any area or the whole of Jharkhand,” and vowed to focus on the development of the state and the protection of tribal rights.
Earlier, at the Ranchi airport, Soren explained his decision to join the BJP (on August 30), suggesting it would have a significant impact on the politics of both Kolhan and the broader Jharkhand region. He expressed confidence in his decision, stating, “The government can do whatever it wants, I am not going to be afraid. I have taken the right decision. We will always have faith in JMM supremo Shibu Soren.”
Soren assured his supporters of his ongoing commitment to the state’s development, asserting, “We are people who struggle, we will not back down,” and addressed concerns about espionage, saying, “We are not afraid of espionage.”
In his resignation letter to JMM supremo Shibu Soren, Champai Soren expressed his discontent with the party’s current direction. He wrote, “I am forced to leave the party due to the current working style and policies of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha. It is with great sadness that I have to say that the party, which workers like us had dreamt of under your guidance, has deviated from that direction.”
Soren acknowledged the party’s influence on his life and requested acceptance of his resignation, citing the absence of a forum within the party to express his concerns due to Shibu Soren’s current health issues.
