Dhanbad:  The Indian Institute of Technology (ISM) Dhanbad inaugurated a ten-day “Training for Trainers” course aimed at enhancing the skills of trainers and teachers under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojna (PMKVY) 4.0 scheme. The program, running from August 30 to September 9, 2024, was launched at the Executive Development Centre (EDC) of IIT-ISMand is supported by the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC).

Srimoyee Mitra, Deputy General Manager of Government Programs at NSDC, addressed the inaugural session online as the Chief Guest. She highlighted that the PMKVY scheme, a flagship initiative of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, has been operational since 2015.

“The objective of PMKVY is to provide skill certification and empower the youth with relevant, industry-aligned skills and futuristic technologies,” Mitra said. She emphasized that PMKVY 4.0 introduces this unique program specifically designed to train trainers for the first time.

Mitra also commended IIT-ISM for its ongoing efforts in skill development and acknowledged the critical role of trainers in any educational program.

Professor Dheeraj Kumar, Deputy Director of IIT-ISM, who presided over the function, described the event as a significant milestone. He noted that the launch of the “Training for Trainers” course coincided with the valedictory of a training program for mine surveyors, showcasing the institute’s comprehensive approach to skill development. “In addition to training in Mine Surveying technology, this program will also include motivational sessions and etiquette training,” Professor Kumar added.

The inaugural session was attended by several distinguished faculty members, including Professor Alok Das, Dean of IIE; Professor DP Mishra, Head of the Mining Engineering Department; Professor Sukha Ranjan Sammader, In-charge Dean of R&D; Professor VGK Villuri, Associate Professor in Mining Engineering; and Sunil Kumar, Coordinator of the Skill Development Program at IIT-ISM.
