New Delhi: The Union Cabinet has officially approved the recommendations of a High Level Committee on the ‘One Nation, One Election’ initiative, which seeks to implement simultaneous elections across India.
During a media briefing in New Delhi, Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw outlined the plan, explaining that the initiative will be rolled out in two phases. The first phase will see Lok Sabha and Assembly elections conducted simultaneously, followed by local body elections—including panchayats and municipalities—scheduled to take place within 100 days of the general elections.
This significant decision aims to streamline the electoral process and enhance governance efficiency across the nation.
