New Delhi: Deepak Gupta, brother-in-law of BharatPe co-founder Ashneer Grover, was arrested on Friday by the Delhi Police Economic Offences Wing (EOW) in connection with allegations of fund misappropriation, according to media reports.

Gupta’s arrest comes after an FIR was filed in May 2023 against Ashneer Grover and his wife, Madhuri Grover, on serious charges including criminal breach of trust, cheating, and forgery. Gupta is married to Madhuri’s sister.

According to the media reports, Gupta is currently being held at the EOW Police Station and is expected to be presented before the Chief Judicial Magistrate at Saket court shortly.

Madhuri Grover is facing multiple allegations under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including criminal breach of trust and cheating, as well as charges of forgery and conspiracy.

This arrest marks a significant development in an ongoing legal saga, which includes a civil suit filed by BharatPe against Ashneer Grover and his family, seeking damages of up to Rs 81 crore for alleged embezzlement.

The case dates back to December 2022 when BharatPe lodged a criminal complaint against several individuals, including Ashneer Grover, his wife, and other family members. Following this, the EOW registered the FIR in May 2023, linking the Grover family to the fraud allegations.
