Bokaro: Delhi Public School (DPS) Bokaro is set to host the CBSE Cluster-III Inter-School Basketball Tournament from 24 to 27 September. The tournament will bring together about 1,200 young athletes from 64 CBSE-affiliated schools across Jharkhand and Bihar, highlighting the area’s basketball prowess.
The tournament will include competitions in three age groups: Under-14, Under-17, and Under-19, with a total of 123 teams participating. Specifically, the Under-14 category will see 19 boys’ teams and 15 girls’ teams, while the Under-17 category includes 31 boys’ teams and 16 girls’ teams. In the Under-19 category, there are 24 boys’ teams and 17 girls’ teams. Over the course of the four days, approximately 25 to 30 matches will be held daily, culminating in around 116 matches overall.
Champions at the Cluster level will qualify for the prestigious CBSE National Tournament, with the girls’ national competition set to take place in Indore from October 9 to 13, and the boys’ competition in Agra from October 14 to 20.
The tournament will kick off with an opening ceremony on September 24 at 9:00 a.m., featuring former Olympian and President of the Jharkhand Basketball Association, Harbhajan Singh, as the Chief Guest, alongside Guest of Honour Mr. Satbir Singh Sahota, an international sportsperson and national cycling champion. The closing and prize distribution ceremony on September 27 will be attended by Umakant Singh, Coach of the Indian National Girls’ Basketball Team.
During a press conference on Monday, Dr. A.S. Gangwar, Principal of DPS Bokaro and Chairman of the Tournament Organizing Committee, expressed pride in hosting this significant event. He highlighted the meticulous preparations made by the school community to ensure the safety and convenience of all participants.
