Bokaro: In a significant demonstration of corporate social responsibility, Vedanta ESL Steel Limited has joined the Swachhata Hi Seva Campaign, initiated by the Government of India to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. Launched on September 17, 2024, the campaign carries the theme ‘Swabhav Swachhata – Sanskar Swachhata,’ emphasizing the importance of cleanliness and community involvement for a sustainable environment.
As part of this initiative, approximately 50 Vedanta ESL employees participated in a Cleanliness and Plantation Drive at the Primary School in Alkusha. The event aimed to engage students, teachers, and community members in enhancing the school’s surroundings, while also raising environmental awareness and promoting hygiene standards.
Key figures in attendance included Philmoon Bilung, the District Development Magistrate from NABARD; Rohit Rajak, Mukhiya of Alkusa Panchayat; and Shyamlee Minz, CHRO of ESL Steel Limited, all of whom took a Swachhta oath to uphold cleanliness and environmental stewardship. The event culminated with the planting of over 100 saplings under the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” initiative.
Beyond the school activities, Vedanta ESL employees also participated in a campaign featuring Swachhta slogans, quizzes, and posters. A unique addition was the “Plalking” initiative, which encourages participants to pick up litter while walking—an engaging method that promotes exercise alongside environmental responsibility and has gained traction in over 100 countries.
Kunal Daripa, Head of CSR at Vedanta ESL, expressed pride in the company’s dedication to cleanliness. “We at Vedanta ESL strongly believe in cleanliness. Our past initiatives to promote this value among our employees are now showing positive results. Cleanliness has become a part of Vedanta ESL’s culture, and we take great pride in that,” he stated.
The Swachhata Hi Seva Campaign continues to motivate communities across India, with Vedanta ESL’s efforts exemplifying a strong commitment to environmental responsibility and community welfare.
