New Delhi: According to a series of exit polls, the Congress party is poised to achieve a significant victory in the Haryana assembly elections, posing a considerable challenge to the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which has held power in the state for the past decade.
An analysis of eight exit polls indicates that Congress is expected to secure approximately 55 of the 90 seats in the Haryana assembly, while the BJP is projected to win around 26 seats. Although exit polls have occasionally proven inaccurate, as seen in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, these forecasts signal a potential shift in the state’s political dynamics.
Dainik Bhaskar reports that Congress is likely to win between 44 and 54 seats, a substantial increase from the 31 seats it secured in the previous election. Conversely, the BJP is predicted to capture between 15 and 29 seats, reflecting a notable decline from the 40 seats it claimed in 2019.
Axis My India estimates that Congress may secure between 53 and 65 seats, with the BJP expected to win between 18 and 28 seats. Bhupinder Hooda, 77, a key Congress figure, expressed optimism, stating that the party’s leadership would ultimately decide the chief ministerial candidate.
Additional forecasts from Dhruv Research suggest that Congress will gain 50 to 60 seats, surpassing the 46-seat majority, while the BJP is projected to win 22 to 32 seats. India Today-C Voter anticipates that Congress will secure 50 to 58 seats and the BJP will capture 20 to 28 seats. Peoples Pulse also projects Congress will win between 49 and 61 seats, with the BJP expected to take 20 to 32 seats.
In the lead-up to the elections, the BJP expelled eight members for contesting as independents against Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini. The Congress party also faced internal challenges, expelling 13 members for “anti-party activities” after they opted to run as independents.
