Dhanbad: Professor Prem Vrat, Chairman of the Board of Governors at IIT-ISM Dhanbad, received the prestigious Fellow of Eminence Award from the World Academy of Higher Education and Development during the Higher Education and Development Summit 2024, coinciding with World Teachers Day. The award ceremony took place at the India International Centre in New Delhi, where Shri Ram Nath Thakur, Hon’ble Minister of State for Agriculture and Rural Development, served as the Chief Guest.
The summit also featured the felicitation of other notable figures, including Dr. VK Saraswat, Member of NITI Aayog. During the event, Professor Vrat chaired a panel discussion focused on “Higher Education for Visit Bharat@2024,” emphasizing the importance of educational development.
World Teachers Day, celebrated annually on October 5, honors the contributions of dedicated educators who shape the future through knowledge and inspiration. This year’s observance highlighted the significant roles played by eminent educators who, guided by their mentors, achieve remarkable success in their fields.
Professor Prem Vrat is an esteemed figure in the IIT community, holding a B.Tech (Hons) and M.Tech from IIT Kharagpur, along with a PhD from IIT Delhi. With over 55 years of experience in teaching, research, and consulting, he has held prominent positions including officiating director at IIT Delhi, founding director at IIT Roorkee, and vice chancellor at UP Technical University and ITM University.
An accomplished academic, Professor Vrat has guided over 50 PhD theses and published more than 515 research papers, earning over 10,364 citations. His contributions to education and research have been recognized globally, and he continues to play a vital role in advancing higher education in India.
