Gaya : A Bangladeshi citizen, living illegally in Bodh Gaya for the past ten years as a self-identified Buddhist monk, was arrested on Saturday at Gaya International Airport. Identified as Babu Joe Barua, also known as Rajiv Dutta, he was apprehended while attempting to travel to Thailand.
During the arrest, police discovered a significant amount of cash, including 1,560 Thai baht, 411 US dollars, 5 euros, and Rs 3,800 in Indian currency, along with a mobile phone, a handbag, and various identity documents, including two Aadhaar cards, a voter ID, and a PAN card.
Gaya Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ashish Bharti announced the details in a press release issued at 9:00 PM. He stated that the Gaya police received a tip-off about a suspicious individual attempting to travel using forged documents. Acting on this information, officers from Magadh Medical Thana were dispatched to the airport.
Upon arrival, Bodh Gaya police, in collaboration with security personnel at the airport, detained the individual for questioning. A thorough search revealed the fake documents, which, upon verification, were confirmed to be counterfeit.
Further investigation indicated that Barua had originally entered India on a Bangladeshi passport and had been residing in Bodh Gaya.
Currently, Gaya police are interrogating the suspect to gather further information regarding his activities and potential connections.
