Dhanbad: The Scolomin Club at IIT-ISM hosted an enlightening seminar at the Penman Auditorium, where students, faculty, staff, and their families explored the intricate relationship between science and spirituality.
Inspired by the philosophy of Sree Sree Thakur Anukulachandra, the event featured several expert speakers who engaged participants in thought-provoking discussions.
The seminar commenced with a presentation by Professor Sutanu Chakraborti from IIT Madras, who addressed the topic “Science and Spirituality: Complimentary and Contradictory.”
He examined the interplay between faith and reason, discussing how both realms can coexist and enhance personal growth. His insights aimed to dispel common misconceptions about the dichotomy of science and spirituality.
Professor Tarun Kumar Dalai from IISER Kolkata followed with a talk titled “Coherency in Thought, Word, and Action: A Key to Inner Tranquility.” He highlighted the negative repercussions of incoherence among thoughts, words, and actions, including decreased productivity and self-doubt. Prof. Dalai also provided practical strategies for achieving harmony in these areas to foster personal well-being.
Surya Prakash Mahapatra, Head of Talent Skilling at Wipro Futuring, delivered a session titled “Success Precised through Faith: A Conception Not Overwhelmed by Contradiction.” He emphasized the importance of surrounding oneself with optimistic influences and maintaining a strong connection to one’s beliefs as a pathway to success.
In an online session, Dr. Pravakar Mohanty, Scientist E at the Department of Science and Technology in New Delhi, encouraged attendees to view misfortune as an opportunity for growth rather than a setback. His talk, “How to Overcome Misfortune; a Miss for Tune,” inspired participants to reframe their perspectives on challenges.
During the inaugural session, Professor Dheeraj Kumar, Deputy Director of IIT (ISM), emphasized the rarity and importance of such seminars in academic settings, providing participants with a unique platform to explore the synergies between spirituality and science.
