New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi embarked on a significant five-day visit to three countries—Nigeria, Brazil, and Guyana—starting with his arrival in Abuja, Nigeria, on the first leg of his tour. The Prime Minister expressed his commitment to strengthening India’s ties with these nations, highlighting shared values of democracy, pluralism, and cooperation.

In a statement before his departure, PM Modi described Nigeria as a close partner of India in West Africa and emphasized that his visit would deepen the strategic partnership between the two countries. “This visit is an opportunity to further strengthen our ties, particularly in areas that align with our shared democratic values. I am also looking forward to meeting with the vibrant Indian community in Nigeria,” he said.

The Prime Minister also noted that his visit comes as India is a Troika member at the 19th G-20 Summit, which will be held in Brazil. He pointed out that India’s G-20 presidency last year brought the Global South to the forefront, and Brazil’s continued efforts would build on this legacy. “India’s successful G-20 presidency last year elevated the platform to a people’s G-20, and we are excited about continuing these discussions under the Brazilian presidency with a focus on ‘One Earth, One Family, One Future,'” Modi added.

PM Modi will also engage with several world leaders during his visit to Brazil to further bilateral cooperation.

The Prime Minister’s visit to Guyana marks a historic moment as it will be the first time an Indian Prime Minister has visited the country in over 50 years. Modi will meet with President Mohamed Irfaan Ali to discuss how to give strategic direction to the relationship between India and Guyana, which is rooted in shared heritage, culture, and values.

As part of his trip, PM Modi will also pay homage to one of the oldest Indian diasporas in Guyana, which has been present in the country for over 185 years. Additionally, he will address the Guyanese Parliament and participate in the 2nd India-CARICOM Summit, where he will join leaders from Caribbean nations to renew historical ties and explore new avenues for cooperation.

The visit is expected to reinforce India’s diplomatic and economic ties with these countries while advancing shared goals for regional and global stability.
