Guwahati: The two-day National Seminar on Cultural Materialism of Ancient Northeast India concluded on January 28 at Cotton University. The event, organized by the Pragjyotish Centre for Cultural Research (PCCR), Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Institute of Asian Studies (MAKAIAS), and the university’s Department of Archaeology, brought together scholars to explore the region’s rich cultural and archaeological heritage.

The seminar featured notable speakers, including Prof. Chandan Kumar Sarma of Tezpur University, who delivered the keynote address, and Prof. Vinay Kumar Rao from JNU, who discussed the interconnectedness of archaeological sources. A key moment of the event was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Cotton University and the Directorate of Museums, Assam, aimed at enhancing research and conservation efforts.

Scholars from across the country participated in the seminar, which also featured discussions on the preservation of Northeast India’s cultural identity and natural heritage. The papers presented will be published in a book, as announced by the seminar convenors.
