Gaya: John Murphy, the CFO of Coca-Cola, visited the Mahabodhi Temple in Bodh Gaya on Thursday as part of his personal and cultural exploration of India. The visit was aimed at experiencing the historical and spiritual significance of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, regarded as the place of Buddha’s enlightenment.

Murphy, accompanied by his team and local representatives, was warmly welcomed in a traditional manner with Khadas by Ven. Dhammissara Monk of the temple, along with Dr. Mahashweta Maharathi, Secretary of the Bodhgaya Temple Management Committee (BTMC), and member Kiran Lama.

He visited the main sanctum, where he paid his respects to Buddha by offering flowers and lighting incense, while Bhikkhu Dhammissara chanted and invoked Buddha’s blessings for the distinguished guests. He was also guided around the Bodhi Tree, where Buddha is said to have attained enlightenment.

Dr. Mahashweta Maharathi shared the temple’s history, architectural heritage, and spiritual significance with Murphy, who expressed admiration for the serene and peaceful atmosphere.

As a token of appreciation, Murphy was presented with a Buddha statue and key publications from the BTMC.

Reflecting on his visit, Murphy expressed deep appreciation for the Mahabodhi Temple, calling the experience “profound and enlightening.”
