Ahmedabad: Billionaire industrialist Gautam Adani has honoured his pledge of a simple, traditional wedding for his son, Jeet Adani, putting to rest rumours of a lavish affair. The wedding, held on Friday at the Belvedere Club in Ahmedabad’s Adani Shantigram township, was an intimate, private ceremony attended by only close family and friends. Notably absent were high-profile politicians, business tycoons, and celebrities, reinforcing the understated nature of the event.

Earlier, during his visit to the Maha Kumbh Mela last month, Gautam Adani had declared that the wedding would be a modest, traditional affair. He stayed true to his word, quashing speculations that it would be a grand spectacle. In addition to keeping the wedding simple, Adani made a monumental gesture by donating INR 10,000 crore, marking this as his wedding gift. The funds will be directed toward various social initiatives.

According to sources close to him, Adani’s philanthropic endeavours are guided by his belief in “सेवा साधना है, सेवा प्रार्थना है और सेवा ही परमात्मा है” (“Service is devotion, prayer, and the highest form of existence”). The primary focus of his donation will be on healthcare, education, and skill development. The funds are expected to support major infrastructure projects, including affordable world-class hospitals and medical colleges, top-tier K-12 schools, and global skill academies with guaranteed employability for all sections of society.

Gautam Adani shared his joy with the public through a post on X (formerly Twitter), stating:

“By the grace of Param Pita Parmeshwar, Jeet and Diva have today entered the holy bond of marriage. The wedding, held today in Ahmedabad, was a simple and intimate ceremony with our loved ones. It was a private event, and I regret that we couldn’t invite everyone. I sincerely seek your blessings for Diva and Jeet.”

Notably, in his post, Adani referred to his daughter-in-law, Diva, as his “daughter.” Diva is the daughter of diamond trader Jaimin Shah. The ceremony followed traditional Gujarati customs, and only close family and friends were in attendance. The absence of politicians, business leaders, diplomats, celebrities, and other prominent figures underscored the simplicity of the occasion.

Jeet Adani, an alumnus of the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, is currently a Director at Adani Airports, managing six international airports and overseeing the development of a seventh in Navi Mumbai.

Two days before the wedding, Gautam Adani announced the launch of ‘Mangal Seva,’ an initiative to support newly married women with disabilities. As part of the program, 500 women will receive financial assistance of INR 10 lakh each every year. To mark the occasion, Jeet Adani met with 21 newly married women with disabilities and their husbands. Gautam Adani expressed his happiness on X, saying, “Jeet and Diva are starting their journey together with a virtuous commitment to social good.”

In a statement at the Maha Kumbh Mela in January, when asked about rumours of a celebrity-packed wedding, Gautam Adani had firmly denied the speculation, stating, “Definitely not. We are like common people. Jeet came here to take Ma Ganga’s blessings. His marriage will happen in a simple and traditional way.”

Gautam Adani’s commitment to philanthropy on his son’s wedding day has set a powerful example, showing that personal milestones can be celebrated with a focus on giving back to society. His donation and the launch of initiatives like Mangal Seva reflect a thoughtful and community-centered approach, demonstrating that wealth can be leveraged for greater societal impact rather than public display.
