ANS: Tesla CEO Elon Musk has voiced his opinion on India’s absence from the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), describing it as “absurd.” Musk, who also owns the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), believes that India, as the world’s most populous country, and Africa both deserve permanent seats on the UNSC.

In a post on X, Musk stated, “At some point, there needs to be a revision of the UN bodies.” He further emphasized, “India not having a permanent seat on the Security Council, despite being the most populous country on Earth, is absurd. Africa collectively should also have a permanent seat.”

Musk pointed out that the issue lies in the reluctance of those in positions of excess power to relinquish it.

India has held non-permanent membership in the UN Security Council for eight terms. The country is also part of the G4, a group of nations that support each other’s bids for permanent membership on the UNSC and advocate for reforms within the UN body.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has previously made passionate appeals for the UN to adapt to the realities of the contemporary world.
