ANS: India’s first AI-enabled robot teacher, Iris, has been introduced at a school in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. Developed in collaboration with Makerlabs Edutech, Iris aims to revolutionise traditional teaching methods by providing personalised learning experiences for students.
Equipped with a voice assistant, Iris engages students in interactive learning activities, responds to queries, provides explanations, and delivers educational content through personalised interactions. With a 4-wheel chassis and 5 degrees of freedom (DoF) movements, Iris can move freely and engage in hands-on learning activities.
The robot, powered by a dedicated Intel processor and a coprocessor for manoeuvring tasks, offers seamless performance and responsiveness. Its Android app interface allows users to easily control and interact with the robot for a personalised learning experience.
Makerlabs shared images of Iris interacting with students at KTCT Group of Schools in Trivandrum on its Instagram page, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to meet Dr. K Rajeev, Director of the Space Physics Laboratory (SPL) of VSSC Trivandrum, during the launch event.
The introduction of Iris marks a significant step towards integrating AI into education, promising to enhance learning outcomes and inspire students in new ways.
