ANS I Jamshedpur: “International Women’s Day Celebrations” kicked off at CSIR-NML with a Women’s Cricket Tournament on 9th March 2024, at the Agrico Residential Complex, organised by the women employees of CSIR-NML with the support of the NML Staff Club. The day saw a series of events held at the office premises of CSIR-NML, Burmamines, under the theme of International Women’s Day 2024 – Inspire Inclusion.
Dr. Sandeep Ghosh Choudhary, the senior Chief Scientist of CSIR-NML, in his welcome address, praised the women employees and highlighted the need to overcome subconscious gender bias during the event. He emphasized the significant contribution of women employees to CSIR-NML, stating that they are the strength of the organization.
The chief guest, Rupa Mahanty, a management consultant, teacher, philanthropist, and Reiki Grand Master, spoke about women’s resilience in challenging the status quo and the unique strength they possess to overcome obstacles.
She urged everyone to collaborate for the advancement of underprivileged women in terms of education and opportunities, emphasizing that those small efforts can lead to significant changes in women’s lives.
On the occasion, CSIR-NML honoured women sanitation workers for their dedicated services, felicitating Chhaya Devi and Maino Mardi this year for their contributions.
The event also featured a cultural program with dances, songs, and skits revolving around the Women’s Day theme. Dr. Sharmistha Sagar, Chief Scientist and Chairperson of the IWD Utsav Committee, CSIR-NML, expressed gratitude to the organizing committee for their hard work in making the event successful. The program concluded with the national anthem.
To add to the festivities, a food fest, fun games, and a talent show were organized, and inaugurated by the chief guest. The top three stalls were awarded prizes, making the occasion memorable and enjoyable for all participants.
