Dhanbad: IIT (ISM) in Dhanbad has achieved a significant milestone by emerging as the best institute in the New Generation Ideation Contest ’23 (NGIC), receiving the “Best Institute Award” for the Maximum Number of Shortlisted Ideas.

The contest, conducted by HPCL Green R&D Center, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited, Bangalore, saw over 600 ideas submitted by institutes from across the country.

Prajjwal Chaudhary, a second-year M.Tech student in Fuel Minerals and Metallurgical Engineering (FMME) under the guidance of Prof. Kesavan Ravi, was also honored with a Commendation Award worth 10,000 INR during the same contest.

The award ceremony, held on 27th March 2024 at the HP Green R&D center, saw Professor Alok K. Das, Dean (IIE), and Professor Ejaz Ahmad, FIC SRIC, receiving the award on behalf of IIT (ISM) from the Executive Director (R&D) of HPCL. The award includes a citation, a trophy, and cash prize.

Intended at encouraging students to come up with new and innovative ideas to address the modern world challenges such as rising energy demands, environmental pollution and growing consumerism HP Green R&D Centre embarked on an innovation drive in 2019 and started organizing New Generation Ideation Contest.

The process of submission of ideas for the New Generation Ideation Contest ’23 began during the September 2023 and a talk of an expert of an HPCL Green R&D Centre, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited, Bengaluru was also conducted at IIT (ISM) in October 2023 and ideas were submitted till November 2023.

Various innovative ideas were invited from researchers, post graduated scholars and undergraduate scholars from across the country for New Generation Ideation Contest ’23 in the category of six themes, including Circular Economy; Digitalization; Hydrogen; CO2 Capture and Conversion; Petroleum Refining and Advance Functional Materials.
