#Good rainfall expected this year
ANS: In an unusual weather event, the monsoon has made an early and simultaneous arrival in both Kerala and the northeastern states of India.
Traditionally, the monsoon enters Kerala on June 1 and reaches the northeastern states, including Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Manipur, and Assam, around June 5. In 2023 the monsoon arrived in Kerala on June 8, however, this year, three days ahead of the usual schedule.
Reports indicate that the Kottayam district in Kerala has already started receiving rainfall. The early onset of the monsoon has been attributed to Cyclone Remal, which formed over the Bay of Bengal last week.
“The Southwest monsoon has set in over Kerala and advanced into most parts of Northeast India today,” said a senior scientist from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in a statement to the media.
