New Delhi: The Union Minister of Civil Aviation, Rammohan Naidu, has launched new guidelines for the operation of seaplanes under the Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS) – UDAN. These guidelines emphasize the safety and security of seaplane operations, clearly defining the responsibilities of all stakeholders, including operators and regulatory bodies.
The newly issued guidelines are designed to ensure the smooth and efficient rollout of seaplane services across India.
Speaking at the launch event in New Delhi, Mr. Naidu highlighted the government’s aim to connect remote areas of the country, making travel more accessible to all citizens. He also mentioned that, following the success of RCS-UDAN, the government is considering the introduction of RCS-UDAN 2.0 for the next 10 years.
The integration of seaplanes into India’s existing aviation system is expected to provide last-mile connectivity to regions that have been isolated due to geographical challenges. This new mode of transportation promises faster and more comfortable travel to these areas, while also opening up new economic opportunities, particularly in the tourism sector.
Minister Naidu emphasised that India is uniquely positioned to capitalize on the potential of seaplane operations. The government is committed to transforming the nation’s coastlines, rivers, lakes, and islands into hubs of connectivity, economic growth, and inclusive development.
