Lucknow: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has agreed to remove the terms ‘Shahi’ and ‘Peshwai’ associated with the holy dip of saints during the Kumbh, following the demand of the Akhara Parishad.
He stated that the government would take meaningful steps based on the proposals put forward by the akharas.
It is noteworthy that the campaign to change the name of Shahi Snan has already received support from Mahant Ravindra Puri, the President of the Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad, who pledged to bring this proposal in the council meeting.
In the council meeting, President Mahant Ravindra Puri mentioned that India is a secular country, where the Constitution is supreme. The Constitution grants equal rights to all citizens.
However, special privileges are still being provided to certain groups based on caste and religion. Therefore, there is a need for the implementation of a Uniform Civil Code across the country.
The saints of the akharas will create awareness through discourses, intellectual gatherings, and dialogues. He also highlighted issues such as love jihad and the conversion of Hindus as serious problems, demanding the enactment of stringent laws.
