Dhanbad: In celebration of World Habitat Day, the EIACP Programme Centre (RP) at the Department of Environmental Science & Engineering, IIT-ISM Dhanbad, organized a lecture on the concept of green building. The event, held in collaboration with the Institution of Engineers (India), Dhanbad Local Centre, featured Professor Suresh Pandian E, an Associate Professor in the department.

The lecture, aligned with this year’s theme of “Engaging Youth to Create a Better Urban Future,” was attended by faculty, students, and staff, including Professor Dheeraj Kumar, Deputy Director of IIT-ISM. Professor Pandian discussed various aspects of green buildings, including their history, construction methods, and potential drawbacks.

He emphasized the benefits of green buildings, such as optimized traffic flow, reduced vehicular emissions, and enhanced energy efficiency, all contributing to healthier living spaces. “A green building uses less water, optimizes energy efficiency, conserves natural resources, generates less waste, and offers a healthier environment compared to conventional buildings,” he stated.

Before Professor Pandian’s presentation, Professor Bishwajit Paul addressed the audience, highlighting the environmental disasters caused by human interference with nature. The lecture underscored the importance of sustainable urban development and the role of green buildings in fostering a healthier future.
