Tel Aviv: In a swift retaliatory response, Israel conducted airstrikes on Hezbollah arms facilities in Beirut and targeted Hamas positions in Gaza on Saturday. This action follows a drone attack on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s residence, which he labeled as an alleged assassination attempt.
Smoke was reported rising from a densely populated area in southern Beirut following the airstrike. Netanyahu, who was not at home during the attack, issued a strong warning to Hezbollah, declaring the drone strike a “grave mistake” and vowing that threats to Israeli citizens would incur severe repercussions.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Netanyahu condemned Hezbollah as “Iran’s proxy” and reaffirmed Israel’s commitment to its military objectives. He emphasized, “This will not deter me or the State of Israel from continuing our just war against our enemies.”
The drone attack occurred just a day after Hamas confirmed the death of its leader, Yahya Sinwar, in an Israeli airstrike. The Israeli military reported that three drones had been launched from Lebanon, with two intercepted. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack on Netanyahu’s residence, which did not result in any injuries.
Netanyahu reiterated Israel’s resolve to eliminate terrorist threats and reshape the region’s security landscape, stating, “Anyone who tries to harm Israel’s citizens will pay a heavy price.”
