Bokaro: Dr. Uma Kant Singh, a former player with the Bokaro District Basketball Association, has been appointed as the coach of the Under-18 Indian Women’s Basketball Team. This marks a significant achievement for Bokaro, reinforcing its reputation not only as the educational capital of Jharkhand but also as an emerging hub for sports.
This appointment is particularly noteworthy as it is the first time in Bokaro’s history that an individual has been selected as a coach for the Indian national team in basketball for two consecutive terms at the national level.
Training for the Indian team has commenced in Chennai, with Dr. Singh actively preparing the players. The training sessions, which run from October 15 to November 8, aim to enhance the team’s performance through focused and technical preparation. Following this training period, the Indian team is scheduled to play several matches in Dubai to further refine their skills before heading to the FIBA Asia Championship.
In addition to his coaching responsibilities, Dr. Uma Kant Singh serves as a Sports Officer at Madhya Pradesh Government Girls College in Singrauli.
