Dhanbad: A three-day professional development program focused on “Advanced Practices for Geo Engineering Challenges in Hydro Power Project Development” commenced today at the Executive Development Centre (EDC) of IIT-ISM. The event drew executives from NHPC Limited who are eager to enhance their knowledge on tunnel excavation methodologies, blast design for tunneling, and seismic hazards.

The inaugural session featured Dr. Pijush Pal Roy, former outstanding scientist at CSIR-CIMFR Dhanbad and acting Director of CMERI Durgapur, as the chief guest. He was joined by Prof. Sukumar Mishra, Director of IIT (ISM), who presided over the ceremony.

Dr. Roy emphasized the importance of such training programs in providing participants with a comprehensive understanding of geo engineering challenges associated with hydro power projects. He noted the collaborative nature of these projects, where geologists, electronic engineers, and electrical engineers must work together effectively.

Prof. Mishra highlighted the various facets of hydropower projects, including excavation and civil construction, and the impact of data and digitization on project management. He expressed optimism that the training would enhance participants’ efficiency in their respective roles.

Prof. Kripamoy Sarkar, the program coordinator, outlined the training schedule, while Prof. Sushant Sarangi, Head of the Department of Applied Geology, elaborated on the program’s focus. The session concluded with a vote of thanks from Prof. Sanjit Kumar Pal.
