Dhanbad: Professor Vipin Kumar from the Department of Environmental Sciences and Engineering at IIT-ISM has been elected as a member of the esteemed National Academy of Sciences, India (MNASc) in the field of Environmental Sciences (Biological Sciences).
Professor Kumar’s research focuses on microbial remediation of persistent pollutants, microbial electrochemical systems, solid waste management, ecology and diversity, and biological wastewater treatment.
He is a life member of several professional organizations, including the Association of Microbiologists of India, the Geological Society of India, and the Indian Science Congress.
In addition to his recent election, Professor Kumar is a fellow of the Geological Society of India and has received the Inder Mohan Thapar Foundation Research Award for excellence in research in both 2021 and 2023. He holds two patents and has authored over 68 research publications in various national and international journals, including those indexed by SCI/SCIE and Scopus.
His election to the National Academy of Sciences underscores his significant contributions to environmental science and his commitment to advancing research in the field.
