New Delhi: Mission Sports culturing through the multidimensional aura of sports has been accelerated in Bokaro— India’s first Global Active Partner City.

In this row the long-awaited and significant interaction through virtual mode between the apex global authorities of United Nations, International Olympic Committee supported Global Active City (GAC) programme and the authorities of Bokaro will be streamlined coinciding the auspicious occasion of International Day of Yoga on 21 June.

Director in-charge Bokaro Steel Plant, SAIL Amarendu Praksh, Deputy Commissioner Bokaro Rajesh Kumar Singh, Jaideep Sarkar, Lead Officer, Partner City, Bokaro, Phillipp Muller Writh for UNESCO (Sports and Youth), Gabriel Messmer President IOC Global Active City, Michael Gross Director IOC GAC and Alister Dalrymple Director Strategy IOC GAC were scheduled to have participated in the interaction programme.

It is well expected that the mission of GAC in which the SAIL township of Bokaro commendably entered in the year 2020 and got tremendous momentum through SAIL declaring the year of 2021 as “A Year for Sports & Well-being” to revamp through a series of puritan sporting programmes creating new innovative opportunities in the area of Sports and Physical Activity, said Jaideep.

“The involvement of UN with a bagful of sporting avenues will be a milestone to propagate the value & power of sports, especially at this juncture of a global pandemic,” he added.

The SAIL sports department of Bokaro with its numerous avenues like the SAIL Football Academy, Day boarding centres for Archery, Cricket as well as the Sports Action Plan of the establishment of Volleyball, Basketball, Hockey centres added by Football and Cricket stadiums, organised township, top-class schools within the township, lush green parks, number of lakes to shoulder the Herculean task ahead, he said.

The coming up International Cricket Stadium at the steel township and Indoor Badminton facilities at Sports Complex will also be catalytic for Bokaro to acquire the full-fledged status of IOC’s Global Active City in the days to come, which fulfills the norms of United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs) towards the concept of a Better World to live in, said Jaideep.
