Dhanbad: To commemorate the birth Anniversary of Great Indian Mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan the Department of Mathematics & Computing of IIT-ISM Dhanbad celebrated National Mathematics Day on Wednesday.
Department of Maths & Computing decided to celebrate the NMD 2021 to inspire and motivate our students and the younger generation to devote their lives to Mathematics and take the Baton from our hands and reach greater glories in the theory and application of this wonderful subject in the world, said Professor Rajni Singh, Dean, Media & Branding of IIT-ISM.
The National Mathematics Day was announced by the Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on 26 February 2012 at Madras University to mark the 125th birth anniversary of Great Indian Mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan, she said.
Professor Rajiv Shekhar, Director of IIT-ISM Dhanbad lit up the life journey of the great mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan. Speaking on the occasion he mentioned the movie “A man who knew infinity” based on the life of Ramanujan.
Guest speakers Professor M. S. Raghunathan, Padma Bhusan & Padma Sree used the quote “As are the crests of the peacocks, as are the jewels of the serpents, so is mathematics at the helm of all Sciences”.
Speaking on the occasion Professor Sudhir Ghorpade talked about “History Development of the Theory of Equations and beginnings of Modern Algebra”. While Professor Nitin Saxena talked about “prime numbers and circuits” and discussed a path-breaking idea of Primality test algorithms.
Professor R. K. Upadhyay, Head of the department discussed about How to improve the visibility & TRP of the Department at the National and International level and the achievements and future plans of the department.
